British forces in southern Iraq have been fighting a “proxy war” against Iran, the commander of the troops who withdrew from Basra Palace has said.
While the Army has frequently accused Iran of stirring violence across southern Iraq by arming Shia militias, no officer has been as blunt as Lt Col Patrick Sanders, commander of 4th Battalion The Rifles.

He told the BBC that 5,500 British soldiers still based at Basra Airport could return to the city if called upon by Iraq’s newly trained security forces. This may happen if Iraq’s army needs help against Basra’s Shia militias – who Britain accuses Iran of arming and training. “We are engaged, or we have been engaged, effectively in a proxy war with Iran and if that resumes then they (Iraq’s security forces) will need us to help,” Lt Col Sanders said. How inconvenient for all those who accuse President Bush of trying to use Iran as a crux, the Iranians are murdering your boys.

After years of horseplay, games and blinding appeasing fools, Iran let’s loose with the reality.

They will employ nuclear weapons, intend to deploy nuclear weapons, and will willingly use them.

This is a serious escalation, it invalidates much of the sorry positions of Iranian appeasers. Hearing this after the much maligned gestures of appeasement by the Bush administration these past 2 weeks regarding sweet deals for Iran, one is only left wondering what more the World, specifically the EU needs before they get SERIOUS about this threat, now the number one global threat to the West!?

From my favorite UK Daily the Telegraph comes the big ‘progressive’ news out of Iran.. You have nothing to fear from radical Islam, give them the nukes I say.

Iran has placed a new moratorium on the execution of people by stoning, the country’s judiciary has announced.

At least nine people in the country are believed to be facing the sentence for a range of offences including adultery, prostitution and incest.  The head of the judiciary Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahroudi first told judges to stop carrying out the penalty in 2002 after pressure from the EU.

Last year, however, a man was stoned to death in western Iran, prompting fears that the punishment would again be regularly carried out. Several other cases of stonings in the past two years were reported but never officially confirmed. The judiciary’s spokesman Alireza Jamshidi said four sentences had been commuted – two will now face long prison sentences and the other two will be flogged.

“In a few other cases, these people have asked for forgiveness and their request … is under review,” he said.

According to Iran’s Islamic legal system, people sentenced to stoning should be half buried before being pelted with stones large enough to hurt, but not large enough to kill immediately.

That’s nice. I’m relieved to see that it was pressure from the EU which has caused the OFFICIAL LEGAL & JUDICIAL SYSTEM IN IRAN to maybe re-consider stoning people to death in 2008, and not any matter of conscience or internal horror, that is very comforting to me. Sounds very humane all in all, half buried so your head is above ground while people throw rocks at you large enough to kill you.. but only very slowly. I’m worried about the stoners though? Will they all be unemployed now and be forced into difficult job retraining, perhaps there might be some openings in flogging? Let’s hope so..

Surgeon General’s Warning: Be careful with that hashish my Iranian friends, Iran is apparently one of the few remaining places where getting stoned can, well.. Get you stoned. Viva Islam!

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)–Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday on CNN’s "Late Edition" that his country hopes international pressure would force Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions, but didn’t rule out other action by Israel.

"I think that Israel is a very strong country, and Israel has known in the past and will know in the future how to defend itself," Netayahu said on the program.

"But we would all prefer to see a solution if possible, a peaceful solution led by the American pressure on Iran to disarm or to discontinue its nuclear program."

He warned that Iran’s potential threat extends beyond Israel and the Middle East. "If this (Iranian) regime will be armed with nuclear weapons, the the danger for the entire world will be enormous," he said on CNN. "If people are worried about the oil prices today, wait till Iran has a nuclear umbrella Arabian peninsula. That would really push oil prices high."

Also coming out swinging was Shimon Peres, and Ynet pulled out all the stops with some video for the occasion.

"They want to wipe out Israel … Now when it comes to destruction, Iran too can be destroyed (but) I don’t suggest to say an eye for an eye," Peres told Reuters in an interview.

"Israel would defend itself under any condition but we don’t look upon it as an Iranian-Israeli conflict exclusively … (Iran) is basically a danger to the world, not just to us."

Nuclear watchdog chief warns of ‘last chance’ for Iran

Sat. 01 Sep 2007 BERLIN (AFP) – If Iran fails to resolve its nuclear dispute by the end of the year, it may be passing by its last chance to do so, the UN atomic energy agency head said in an interview due out Monday.

“By November, or December at the latest, we should be able to state whether the Iranians are keeping their promises. If they don’t keep them, Tehran will have passed by an important chance, perhaps the last,” Mohamed ElBaradei, the International Atomic Energy Agency head, told weekly Der Spiegel.

By Nov. or Dec. we should be able to determine if Iran is keeping its promises!? Is this guy snorting the Kool-Aid dry now in powder form!? You mean the IAEA has NOT determined this to date, there’s a shocker huh! I guess those sanctions are for posterity only.

However, the IAEA chief urged international players to “encourage” Iran to cooperate. “Beside sanctions, there must also be encouragement,” he said, underlining that “sanctions alone will not bring any durable solution.” But he added that there were “concrete grounds to suspect” Iran of developing a nuclear bomb.

Ya think!? There’s the big BUT, we need to coddle & encourage the fanatical Islamists seeking nuclear weapons, because they were unloved as children and the whole carrot bit works very well, as evidenced by the years of multilateral European failures which have brought us NOW to the 20th ‘last chance’ for Iran.. How pitiful. 

Asked about the possible use of force against Tehran, ElBaradei said that might destroy a large part of Iran’s nuclear installations, but warned of the danger of an explosion of violence in the whole region. “The already very deep oppositions between the Islamic world and the West would explode,” he said. He added that such a move would also certainly reinforce support for an Iranian nuclear bomb. [...]

Ahh finally something he is CERTAIN ABOUT, that the Islamic World will explode and taking action will reinforce support for Iranian Nukes, in other words this is the last chance, but like the 20 other last chances not really.. Because clearly Elbaradei fears the Islamic World’s oppositions to the West far outweigh the Armageddon that arrival of Nuclear Weapons to the Islamicists might spell. This Dhimmitude is refreshing in World leaders, can I have some more?

Reminding me why I am a conservative..

David Owen, former foreign Secretary of Britain in the late 70’s and then leader of the socialist democrats in the UK goes full on Jimmy Carter in this absurd piece of opinion in order to buttress his frankly detached from reality views, maybe he is channeling Barack Obama? I hear that is popular these days.

Not only does he advocate near total surrender to Iran’s every whim, but in a cruel twist of Irony he is not opposed to force as most leftists usually are. He supports the use of force indeed, just not against Iran.. Instead he advocates the President of the United States announce publicly that the US will defend air corridors to Iran and engage militarily with its chief ally Israel! Yes, you read that correctly – Shoot down Israeli fighter jets on any mission to Iran.

Parallel Universe

I guess the left really does live in a mirror universe where up is down & black is white. In Owen’s world Iran & the US are the allies, and Israel is the pariah nation. America should not threaten force on Iran, but it is justified in doing so against its ally Israel. In Owen’s world Iran is eager to deal with everyone, its is the lack of leadership by President Bush which is preventing peace on earth & love toward all.

Thankfully Iran has announced its own pre-conditions to the USA before any negotiations can take place and they coincidentally fall right in line with Owen’s worldview. Iran is calling for the total withdrawal of all US military forces from the entire Middle East, and the end of US support for Israel as its pre-conditions..

Hmm, Owen you are a genius! Maybe on the way out of the Middle East in compliance with Iran’s demands for a ‘grand-bargain’, America could take it a step further and simply attack / destroy all of Israel while the Supercarriers are sailing by, thus filling the entire Iranian condition slate in one go. I’m sure the USS Reagan, the Nimitz, The USS H.W Bush, the Eisenhower, etc and all the great leaders these marvelous powerhouse ships are named after would highly approve..

Amazingly enough, I couldn’t find any ships named after another ‘great’ leader – Neville Chamberlain, I wonder why that is?
